The low luminous power of UV LED is mainly due to the production level of tube core, material and packaging technology. At present, there are two main types of ultraviolet LED packaging: epoxy resin packaging and metal and glass lens packaging. The former is mainly used in near-ultraviolet LED around 400 nm, but the material is greatly affected by the aging of ultraviolet radiation. The latter is mainly used in UV LED with wavelength less than 380 nm. GaN, sapphire and other materials have large refractive index difference with air, which results in total reflection, limits the light efficiency, and leads to low light output efficiency after packaging. A high power ultraviolet light emitting diode (LED) developed by Sandia National Laboratory in the United States uses flip chip and thermal conductive substrate to increase brightness and efficiency. In DC mode, one device can provide 190 nm continuous radiation of 1.3 mW, while the other can provide 275 nm radiation of 0.4 mW. It has the characteristics of small waveform coefficient, little maintenance and very low power consumption. It is suitable for transmitters, hand-held biosensors and solid-state lighting for non-line-of-sight covert communication. High power LED ultraviolet curing equipment (HP LED) can work in hundreds of milliamperes (the working current of ordinary LED is tens of milliamperes), some even exceed the current of A, so it can emit very strong light. Because overheating is destructive, HP LEDs must be efficient to minimize heat and need to be mounted on radiators to dissipate heat, otherwise HP LEDs that do not dissipate heat will burn in seconds. Because it is difficult to fabricate high efficiency light emitting devices using a GaN active layer, InGaN active layer is used in commercial high power ultraviolet (wavelength greater than 290 nm) and blue/green light emitting diodes.
